AppBuildersPH Hackathon 2026

AppBuildersPH Hackathon 2026

At the AppBuildersPH Hackathon 2026, our team shipped OpsScam, an on-device scam detection app built to help protect everyday Filipinos from SMS phishing, fake payment alerts, and OTP scams. People can check text, links, screenshots, and QR codes and get a risk level, red flags, and an actionable explanation in Taglish. Analysis runs locally, keeping sensitive data off the cloud and making the app usable offline.

The hackathon ran across two days: Remote Build Day on Friday, October 9, 2026, with 24 hours to build, followed by In-Person Demo Day on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

We didn't make the finalist cut, but the 24-hour sprint was a high-signal experience. It was my first hackathon outside university, and I teamed up with fellow intern Gwyn Barte alongside Johnrey Gabon and Raizel Sablan. We had to work through the constraints of on-device inference, design an offline-first flow, and iterate quickly under pressure.

I'm grateful to the team, organizers, judges, and fellow builders for the challenge and the conversations. We came away with a shipped build and a lot to carry into the next one.
